FAQs - Tampa General Primary Care Mobile Unit

What is the Tampa General Mobile Unit?

The Tampa General Mobile Unit is a cutting-edge primary care clinic on wheels—bringing high‑quality healthcare directly to your neighborhood. For residents of Babcock Ranch, the unit can conveniently come right to your home, parking in your driveway so you can complete your appointment inside the mobile clinic with ease and privacy.

Whether you live in Babcock Ranch or live elsewhere, you can also schedule appointments at the Tampa General Urgent Care center, where the mobile unit is stationed and ready to serve you.

Our comprehensive services include new patient consultations, annual physicals, follow‑up visits, well‑child checkups, and acute care visits for patients ages 2 and up—making exceptional care more accessible than ever.

Is there an additional fee if the mobile unit comes to my home?

No. There is no extra charge for home visits by the mobile unit.

If I see a provider from Tampa General, will all my referrals be in Tampa?

Currently, referrals are directed to local providers outside of Tampa General due to distance. However, if you prefer to see a Tampa General specialist, that option is available upon request.

Will the mobile unit provider become my primary care provider, and will they also be available at the new primary care location once it opens?

Yes. After your visit with our mobile unit provider, Kelly Babbie, Nurse Practitioner, will become your primary care provider and will also be available at our new brick-and-mortar primary care location once it opens, ensuring continuity of care.

What is the difference between nurse practitioner and physician?

In Florida, family medicine physicians can prescribe all medications, including controlled substances. Family nurse practitioners can provide primary care and prescribe most medications—but controlled substances and full autonomy require additional experience and state approval.
