Skin Cancer Center: Our Physicians

Douglas Scott Reintgen, MD

Dr. Douglas Reintgen is on the medical staff at Tampa General Hospital and is a professor of surgery at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. He was the program leader for the cutaneous oncology program at MCC from 1987-2000 and the assistant program leader for the breast program. Very quickly, those two programs grew to be leaders in their fields based on the development of the lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy technique that the team of Dr. Reintgen helped develop and then teach the procedure worldwide to other teams of surgeons, nuclear medicine physicians and pathologist. The SLN procedure rapidly became the standard of care for the surgical treatment of melanoma and breast cancer. From 2000-2008, Dr. Reintgen was the founding member and cancer center director of the Lakeland Regional Cancer Center, which has been named one of the top cancer centers in the state of Florida. In 2008, Dr. Reintgen came back to USF as director of cancer initiatives and currently is the program leader for the TGH Cancer Care cutaneous oncology program.
